The Roopkund – Kuari Pass Trek is one of the most demanding treks in the Garhwal Himalayas that takes you to India’s two most rewarding places located in the Northern Himalayas. Roopkund Lake is the high altitude lake has been a pilgrimage destination for centuries and has attracted tourists from all over the globe over the years. The trek to Roopkund takes one through some of the best terrain in the Garhwal Himalayas, with one passing through thick forest, undulating meadows, quaint villages, towering peaks, etc.
Where Roopkund trekking takes you to the mysterious lake at the Trishula Peaks having human skeletons and bones dating back to 14th century and brings the stunning views of some of the famous giant peaks of the Himalayas like Nanda Devi, Kamet and Chaukhamba and then towards Kuari Pass at the heart of Chamoli district at an altitude of 4265m. This is the next stage of the trek that takes you to another fabulous destination – Kuari Pass. Though not very high by Himalayan standards, it offers the most stunning views of some of the famous Himalayan peaks. This trail is internationally popular as the Lord Curzon’s Trail (named after the Indian Viceroy, Lord Curzon, who undertook this trek during his stay in India). The main attraction of this section of the trek is the majestic views of the most revered and the highest peaks in India, the Nanda Devi at the height of 7817m.
